QCOSS, in partnership with Tenants Queensland and QShelter, has secured funding from Energy Consumers Australia to undertake research into the energy issues for tenants in Queensland.

The research will consider energy consumer issues for households living in a variety of rental tenure arrangements across Queensland. The purpose is to gather evidence to enable tenants to be adequately represented in national and state energy policy processes.

Online survey

We are conducting an online survey that asks tenants about their rental situation, energy supply arrangements and any energy-related problems or issues they may have experienced as renters. Participants can also indicate what changes they think could be made or measures that could be taken to address these concerns.

Please circulate this survey link broadly to staff, clients and other service providers, as many of them may be renters. The survey will be open until 14 October.

Complete the survey here.

One-on-one consultation

We will be conducting face-to-face consultation sessions. Regional and remote service providers can contact us at any time to book a phone or skype interview.

The next consultation session with service providers will be:

Venue: Peoples Market, 2/2 Guara Grove, Pimpama 4209

Date: Thursday 6 October 2016

Time: 10:00am to 12 noon

Register for this event here.

Here are some points to consider for these discussions:

  • What are some of the issues households in rental properties in your community face when it comes to energy?
  • What is the one thing that would make the biggest difference to help renters with their energy costs?
  • Do you know any renters who are being charged for electricity by their landlord / body corporate or caravan park owner?
  • If you have provided assistance to renters with their energy, what was the nature of the issue and how did you address it?
